The Struggle for Existence ranks second for me. There’s Restart from Dynasty Warriors 8, The Last Battle from Dynasty Warriors 7. I’ve already talked about The Epic Remains Forever, from the ninth installment of Dynasty Warriors. The Struggle for Existence is one in a line of excellent final battle themes for the Kingdom of Cao Wei and the Jin Dynasty. The guitars during the verses and refrain focus on heavy distortion on bone rattling power chords and even heavier riffs. The guitar solo features some pretty awesome licks with some hammers-and-pull offs for good measure. On the flip side from the “last stand” point of view, it effectively conveys a sense of desperation. The bass and drum create this rhythm of a slow march, getting ever closer to the castle gate, laying siege. The song is punctuated by a slow kick drum and heavy almost thunderous slap bass. It’s the BGM that plays during both Liu Bei‘s invasion of Yi Province and during the Kingdom of Shu Han’s last stand in the forth installment of Koei-Tecmo‘s hack-n-slash game. Today’s song is The Struggle for Existence, from the Dynasty Warriors 4 Official Soundtrack. This time, instead of march off to get vengeance for our fallen brothers and comrades who were felled by hostile kingdom, we’re here to establish our own.
